Why NFL Player Von Miller Needs Permission From His Mother To Get The Next Tattoo He Wants: A Triangle On The Back Of His Head

By Sidra Lackey

Von Miller, a 33 year old NFL linebacker on the Buffalo Bills, wants to get a head tattoo but he has yet to get his mother’s okay to go ahead with it.

The tattoo he wants seems innocent enough: a triangle. In September of this year, Miller tweeted about the deeper meaning behind a triangle: “A triangle represents manifestation, enlightenment, revelation, and a higher perspective. It is often used to mark the cycles of growth that lead to a higher state of being. Spiritually, it represents a path towards enlightenment or connection to an omnipresent being.” The shape’s spiritual meaning inspired Miller to initially get a “triangle-shaped tuft” in the back of his head. Miller told the magazine PEOPLE, the haircut: "felt so fitting to where I am and what I'm doing in my life right now. The haircut chose me. It started out as a really, really small triangle, and then it just grew and grew."

From the triangle haircut (that fittingly earned him a partnership with Doritos, PEOPLE reports) Miller is now inspired to get a triangle tattoo. Miller tells PEOPLE, “Lately I had been wanting to get the triangle tatted underneath the hair.” But then he reveals why he hasn’t gotten it done yet. “I'm still trying to convince my mom to let me do it. It still needs mom's permission,” he admits in his PEOPLE interview, “Von Miller Says He 'Still Needs Mom's Permission' for New Tattoo, Despite Being 'Tatted All Over' His Body.”

Miller can’t get the triangle tattoo he wants so badly because of the tattoo pact he made with his mother before he even started getting tattoos. “You know what's crazy? Right before I started getting tattoos, I had to promise my mom to not get tattoos on my hands, my neck or my face. And it was tough, but I stayed true to that,” Miller tells PEOPLE. “My dad, he really didn't care. But my mom, I made the pact with her, and it is special between us.”

PEOPLE reports Miller is currently “lobbying to get that triangle [tattooed] in the same spot” as the hair on his head.

Tattoo collectors, do you think Von Miller’s tattoo pact with his mother is cute (it shows the respect he still has for his mother in honoring the promise he made to her) or corny? (he is a 33 year old man needing parental permission for a tattoo!) Have you ever made a “tat pact” with a parent? If not, how about with yourself? Is there a tattoo placement you’ve promised to never get a tattoo there?
